i'm home
sooooo, uhhh, yeah. i'm home in thonon now. but i can't upload pics just yet. why? let me explain my last day in spain:
1. woke up at 7am after going to bed at 430am, thereby missing the train to barcelona in order to catch the plane to geneva, whiwh was departing at 1145am. frantically changed the flight departure time online at meggan's apartment, at an expensive price. went back to sleep for another hour.
2. woke up again, hurried to train station, whiwh was crowded, as usual. stood in line for 20 minutes to ask this guy if i could still use my train ticket for another train. nope. also, only first class seats available, at 60€ a pop. couldn't swing it. left train station pissed at myself.
3. flood of worried thoughts. if i miss my next plane, i'm basically stuck in spain. i had no credit card or bank card, was only living off cash at this point, as card replacements for stolen wallet 3 weeks earlier had not arrived before i left for spain. was down to 50€. decided i would need to catch bus back to barcelona. caught inner-city valencia bus to big bus station, and caught a bus out of valencia for 22€. asked a few people if they thought i would arrtive in time to catch a plane at 1720. this old lady replied, "ohhhhh dios mio, barely." another guy from western sahara said, "yes you will have time. i will show you where to get off."
4. by 230pm we were half way there. more worried thoughts. if i get to barcelona but miss my plane where will i go? i have no reservation, no minutes left on my cell phone, no credit or bank cards. i have 28€ to my name. maybe i'll sleep in the aeroport and beg the easyjet people to send me home. wow, this is sure risky.
5. got into barcelona at 1650; had 30 minutes to get to airport and check in. nice guy from western sahara helped me find the right train to get on to go to airport. realized it was the right platform but wrong train. got oiff that train, waited for the right one. no more room for slip-ups. it was now 1705. still not at airport.
6. got to airport at 1715. ran, very fast, to check in desk. made it!!!!!!
7. got home and realized i left battery adapter for computer at meggan's. will have to wait to upload pics until i get it back from here via snail mail.
sorry!

Hi Hunter,
Good to hear about all your travel antics, keep it up. I can sympathise with the business of missing a flight. I once planned to get a train from some town in the middle of Germany to the airport in Amsterdam over the course of a day and found this was totally unrealsitic when I was still on a "high speed" dutch train as my flight took off. As I had blown every penny to my name on this trip I considered various options such as selling some clothes at the airport but ended up telling easyjet to phone my dad and get him to pay for it. The resulting confusion of a Dutch person having a conversation with my dad allowed me to walk onto the next available flight to London with no payment being made by anybody.
